Right to Dream is scattered site transitional-to-permanent housing for transitioning youth (aged years) who are survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence and are experiencing housing instability or homelessness. Drawing on our experience running scattered site housing programs, Right to Dream will help transitioning youth survivors’ access safe and stable housing, recover from their trauma, and increase their empowerment and wellbeing. EP is based on the principles of the Housing First evidence-based model, to stabilize housing immediately, so other needs can be met. Participants are offered the opportunity to sign a lease on an apartment of their choosing that best meets their familial, financial and safety needs, made possible by the relationships DASH has established with landlords across the city.

We are also recruiting more landlords and property managers to partner with DASH and provide housing through Right to Dream. As we grow Right to Dream, we are looking to expand our partnerships in the community to help us provide participants with more opportunities, including education and job training. 479 beds have been launched in safe houses across the U.S., providing survivors 174K safe nights annually. Our programming provides specialized support to children to help them develop healthy behaviors and relationships, including through reading hours, play groups, art therapy, and educational outings.

We work to ensure that all survivors have the tools and skills they need to be exactly who they choose to be and to create and maintain safe homes. Right to Dream will expand the availability of youth-friendly, survivor-focused, long-term transitional housing and services. Transitioning youth have the highest risk of being victims of domestic and/or sexual violence compared to all other age brackets. Vulnerable populations in this phase of life, such as LGBTQ youth, are at even greater risk.
